Tree Lights Up...and So Do Our Clients!
In partnership with the New York City Urban Project, Project Renewal brought 'good cheer" to the residents of our Third Street Shelter.
This year, NYCUP students and a choral group from Gramercy
Arts High School helped lift the spirits of our residents, by joining a special tree lighting ceremony, singing carols, drinking cider, and showing them they are not alone. Thank you to to the singers and best wishes to all for a healthy and happy holiday season!

Mitzvah Day at Holland House
Susan Canter, Project Renewal's General Counsel, also sits on the Executive Committee of the Council of Young Jewish Presidents. One of the CYJP's projects this year was coordinating efforts for Mitzvah Day volunteering. Susan saw this as a great opportunity to incorporate the work of Project Renewal with Mitzvah Day. The group of 17 volunteers painted a number of the hallways at Holland House. Says Susan:
Everyone approached the task with dedication and professionalism. When clients passed by we spoke to them and they were curious about what we were doing. There was a lot of conversation, some good laughs and everyone had a great experience.

BT Employees Celebrate 3 Years of Comfort Foods Partnership
Every Thursday morning you'll find a group of BT staff chopping vegetables and making sandwiches in the Comfort Foods kitchen at our 3rd Street Shelter.  "It's our busiest day of the week, and to be able to count on these volunteers week after week is a huge boost," says Barbara Hughes, Comfort Foods Director.  Barbara and her staff traveled to the midtown offices of BT this week to thank the volunteers and the volunteer coordinator Bernie Shaw.  Bernie estimates that over 75 BT staff have volunteered in the kitchen, and many attended the informal program and reception (cookies and lemon bars baked by Comfort Foods staff, of course).  BT staff also presented 22 boxes of donated food and toiletries to Project Renewal's Holland House residents.

Professional Chefs Prepare Gourmet Dinner
for 3rd Street Shelter Residents
How often do you hear shelter residents commenting “that apple tart was amazing” and “by far the salmon was the best, hands down.”   They were treated to a specially prepared dinner by professional chefs from some of the top private clubs in the city. The New York Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America picked the shelter as the beneficiary of a magnificent dinner which was also enjoyed by staff and local community board members.

Our thanks to the chefs and club staff members who prepared and served the dinner: (pictured left to right: John Dorman, University Club, Kevin O’Brien, Yale Club, Rita Evans, Explorers Club, Martin Hale, Colony Club, Michael Hoskam, retired, Chef Florimond Smoor, Penn Club, Natalie Bobadilla, Linx Club, Gail Hochfeld, New York Yacht Club, Markus Sponring, sous chef, Penn Club, and Heba Elshinawy, Penn Club. Not pictured is Wesson Anderson, Penn Club Manager.
