Project Renewal unveils new Detox Center

Ribbon Cutting

On May 30, 2007, in partnership with the New York State Office of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse, the New York City Department of Homeless Services and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Project Renewal celebrated the opening of the Detox Center at our 3rd Street Men's Shelter.

The Detox is New York City's first non-hospital, medical detoxification

clinic dedicated to serving homeless people.  It will provide homeless substance abusers the services they need to get well and begin their recovery including: medical care, substance abuse counseling and referral to aftercare treatment.  Not only is the Detox Center an alternative to inpatient detoxification services at public hospitals, it is cost effective and a new way to avoid Medicaid expenses.

Ed Geffner, Project Renewal's President & CEO, Commissioner Robert V. Hess, Commissioner Karen M. Carpenter-Palumbo, Stephanie Cowles, Associate Director of Project Renewal and Josh Rubin from the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene helped officially cut the ribbon to our ceremony.

BT Americas Hosts 4th Annual Charity Gala Raising $135,000!
  BT Logo

Cipriani Wall Street dazzled in winter splendor as 330 guests gathered for dinner, dancing, and auctions to support the partnership between BT and Project Renewal: Connecting for a Better World.  BT provides networked

IT services to businesses around the world, and they own and operate the 2nd largest IP network in the U.S.

Guests were inspired by Project Renewal graduate Darryl Terry who recently completed our recovery and work program at Renewal House. Darryl admitted that bad decisions in his life kept him trapped in a cycle of drug addiction and rehab until he came to Project Renewal.  “They address the true nature of whatever it is you’re going through…Here I re-learned to live again…At Renewal House you’re given a lot of freedom.  You go to meetings; you have to work.  Work is an important part of the program.  I worked at the Times Square Alliance (the BID).  Darryl has ambition, hope for his future, and a willingness to share his story with others.  “I like how people see me now.”

This is the 4th year that BT, under the leadership of Chuck Pol, President of BT Americas, has named Project Renewal the beneficiary of the annual Charity Gala, and we are grateful for this support.
