Program Description

The Fort Washington Men’s Shelter is a 200 bed temporary shelter which Project Renewal manages under a contract with the Department of Homeless Services and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Comprehensive psychiatric, medical and case management services are provided to homeless men who have been diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties of the Medical Clerk include but are not limited to the following activities:

·         Serves as the Medical Office Assistant performing all requests made by the Psychiatrist and the rest of the medical staff

·         Gathers all intake forms on all new clients entering the shelter  and enter data in eClinical Works(eCW)

·         Ensures that all new clients arrive for the intake process with the Nurse in the Psychiatry Department

·         Escorts clients to appointment with the Clinical Director to get an assignment of a Case Manager

·         On a daily basis, checks the EMed system to see if clients’ Medicaid is active and the number is correct

·         On a daily basis, faxes clients’ medication forms to MedWorld and Fordham pharmacy and files a copy

·         Makes sure appointment slips are given out in the evening by the R.A. staff

·         Orders office supplies when needed from the Secretary/Office Manager

·         When requested by the Case Managers, completes required forms and escorts clients to Men’s Room for urine for toxicology test

 

Education and Skills Requirements                                                                                                                        

·         A High School Diploma or equivalent - Associates Degree preferred

·         Experience working with individuals with mental illness or substance addictions or with homeless individuals

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
