There for New Yorkers Who Need Us

Since our founding in 1967, Project Renewal has believed that every New Yorker deserves the opportunity for a new beginning. What began as a 48-bed alcohol detoxification program has grown into one of the city’s largest social services agencies, reaching over 10,000 people each year.

When we were founded, the city government was looking for a solution to help “public inebriates” on Manhattan’s “Skid Row”–the Bowery. They turned to Project Renewal, then known as the Manhattan Bowery Project, to help create a long-term, sustainable, solution for individuals living with alcohol dependence.

Since that beginning, our goal has always been to help New Yorkers live with dignity and independence. Our comprehensive wraparound services meet our clients and residents where they are, with what they need, when they need it. Today, we continue to blaze trails as a leader, providing innovative programs in the areas of health, homes, and jobs.
