Rooted in Community

Project Renewal was founded in 1967 on the revolutionary principle that addiction was a health issue, and not a crime. Our first program was a detoxification program on the Bowery, which offered medical treatment and a bed, instead of a jail cell.

Now, our Third Street location is home to a variety of OASAS licensed programs that support people who use drugs through a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, person-centered approach to services, including access to Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) and additional evidence-based practices.

The Recovery Center

A keystone program at Project Renewal, The Recovery Center helps individuals recovering from alcohol and drug use develop their ability to lead healthy and self-sufficient lives.

Residential Substance User Health Program

Project Renewal’s residential substance user health services are accessible to anyone in need of short or long-term treatment, regardless of insurance status. Focusing on alcohol, opioid, and other substances, our program provides individualized care from doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and addiction counselors to help clients reach their recovery and personal goals.
