A rendering of the gut renovated, purpose built New Providence Women’s Shelter and Housing. Trees, cars, and people line the street in front of a spacious modern building with large windows.

New Providence Women’s Shelter is a 130 bed emergency shelter for adults who have been diagnosed with mental health or substance use disorders. The program offers a safe, supportive environment alongside comprehensive, trauma‑informed services designed to help residents stabilize and move toward permanent housing.

While the shelter undergoes a full reconstruction as part of the Willow Tree Commons development, residents have been temporarily relocated to alternative sites, with most residing in a congregate setting in Hell’s Kitchen where we continue to provide uninterrupted care. Services include case management, individual and group counseling, recreational activities, housing placement assistance, and access to primary care and behavioral health services.

When complete, New Providence Women’s Shelter will return to a newly constructed, 21‑story building, offering 171 emergency shelter beds within a modern, purpose‑built setting. The shelter will feature dedicated entrances and amenities, on-site mental health and social services, and access to a street‑facing Article 28 primary care clinic serving both residents and the surrounding community.
